History

The British Chinchilla character is not only charming but also unique. The Chinchilla cat breed is the first to have been artificially bred by humans. There are several versions of how the first kitten with such a coat color appeared. Some versions seem more plausible than others, while some are completely fantastical; however, it can be confidently stated that the first cat with long, thick, silver fur appeared in 1882.

The owners of such a lineage were determined to create a new breed, and through proper selection, they managed to stabilize the gene for the desired coat color. Interestingly, in the future, one of the litters of silver Chinchillas produced a golden Chinchilla kitten, which eventually separated and became its own distinct group.

Chinchillas are named after the South American rodent of the same name due to their fluffy and dense silver-white fur.

The British Chinchilla character is one of the most exotic and striking traits of this breed. The Chinchilla cat is known for its thick short/long hairs, dense and fluffy coat, and doll-like facial features. The undercoat is pure white with black, silver, or golden tips. They have round faces and large green or blue eyes, and their ears are well-shaped. A black outline can be seen around the eyes, nose, adding to their attractiveness.

The Chinchilla cat breed is considered medium-sized; however, due to their fluffy fur, they appear larger. Males can weigh up to 16 lb, while females can weigh up to 11 lb. The body of the animal corresponds to the characteristics of the British breed. They have soft and smooth body contours, a broad chest, and a straight back.
As a fairly strong animal, they are characterized by short, powerful legs that end in broad pads. The tail is not very long but is quite thick. It is covered along its entire length with soft and dense fur, and this fur should also be present between the toes.
The round head and flattened muzzle are among the most recognizable characteristics of the British Chinchilla character. The soft and smooth features of the face perfectly complement each other. A round chin, wide nose, soft cheeks, and large eyes create the appearance of a fluffy ball. The head is topped with round, medium-sized ears. Long-haired breeds have tufts at the tips, while short-haired ones do not.
When you look at a chinchilla, the first thing you’ll notice is its huge, shiny, bright eyes. They are quite expressive, have a vibrant green or blue color, and are outlined with black circles that resemble makeup.
There are two types of coat colors:
The chinchilla cat with a silver tint has a wider range of tipping in its coat color. The colors vary from lilac and blue to chocolate. They have dark rings around their eyes. Golden chinchillas have a multicolored undercoat. They have brown rings around their eyes and nose.
British and Scottish chinchillas have slight differences in characteristics. Scottish cats have slightly longer tails and legs, while British chinchillas have ears that are set a bit wider apart. However, they all share the magnificent coat with an original color, expressive eyes with distinctive outlining, and soft facial features.

Character

The breed of Chinchilla cats is considered truly aristocratic. This is evident in their behavior, tastes, character, and patience. They are quite calm and balanced, and they enjoy attention. They will not refuse active play, as it allows them to spend time with their owner.

A clever British Chinchilla cat quickly learns the basic rules, knows exactly where her litter box and food bowl are. The pet’s noble demeanor is enhanced by its angelic patience. The cat will not react aggressively to active children or a sudden swift movement in her direction. If something bothers him, he will simply move to another location but will not engage in open conflict.

Chinchilla cats are very attached to people, have a need for attention, and can't stand loneliness for a long time. Other pets in the house can't replace their owner, meaning that one must spend a lot of time with them. They love to lie in laps and purr softly. Chinchillas have a neutral attitude towards other pets, whether it's a cat, dog, or even a rodent. They do not possess a pronounced hunting instinct and will not eat a hamster out of boredom.
They are also neutral towards strangers; they are not afraid but do not pester them either. They can allow themselves to be petted or even held, but they will not approach an unfamiliar person first. Chinchilla kittens are quite playful; however, this playfulness diminishes with age. While a kitten may chase a piece of crumpled paper around the sofa for hours, as an adult, it will demonstrate its royal blood in demeanor.
